2017 Cinema Releases

It’s that time of the year now to reflect on the year that’s passed and look forward to more exciting cinema releases that are to come in the new year. These are just a select few stand out selections, high on my to-watch list.

La La Land

This has to be top of my list during the final months of 2016. Already released into other parts of the world, unfortunately the UK have to impatiently wait until mid January to experience  the musical magic from Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. Stone portrays an inspiring actress, while Gosling is a Jazz musician, both aiming to follow their dreams with the vast surroundings of Los Angeles as their muse. There’s already been so much awesome buzz around this movie, said to dazzle with a beautiful nature; the aesthetics appear to be gorgeous and the music is charming. I’ve seen the trailer plenty so hurry up and come to the UK already!

Split

Such an intense thriller like this may not usually be up my alley, yet from what I’ve already seen from the extreme performance from James McAvoy has caught me extremely intrigued indeed. Set for worldwide release during the middle of January, McAvoy’s protagonist takes head of 23 unique personalities within one body; a remarkable element that will be fascinating to witness on screen. Fully expecting a creepy and gripping journey from the mind of M. Night Shyamalan as three abducted teenage girls attempt to get away from his clutches.

 The Lego Batman Movie

Slightly unsure when the announcement of this Lego cinematic instalment was brought to my attention, yet the recent trailers have instantly won me over. Aimed to be released in February of 2017 and provides appearances from Batman’s eccentric sidekick Robin (voiced by the adorable Michael Cera), disturbed villain The Joker (voiced by Zach Galifianakisand his nutty gal Harley Quinn (Jenny Slate), as well as Two-Face (Billy Dee Williams), Batgirl  (Rosario Dawsonand of course beloved butler Alfred (Ralph Fiennes). After the success of The Lego Movie back in 2014, there is hope for this quirky instalment featuring the one and only dark knight; once again voiced by Will Arnett. Fully aware it may not be the most highly acclaimed blockbuster of the year, but at least we’ll have a little fun while we’re at it.

Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2

Who is not excited for this though? The high anticipated return of Chris Pratt‘s infamous Starlord persona comes to cinemas worldwide in May of 2017. The sequel of the 2014 Marvel epic intends to bring back the familiar cast of mismatched heroes, which is plenty enough information to induce high levels of excitement in my eyes. The recently exposed theatrical trailer enhances that excitement even more due to the involvement of Baby Groot and humorous scenes between characters. It’s going to kick butt and leave everyone laughing, I’m sure.

Spiderman: Homecoming

Another Superhero film of course. After Tom Holland‘s performance in the 2016 mass hero epic Captain America: Civil War, I can safely be ready for his solo debut in the Marvel, joined by Robert Downey Jr.‘s Iron Man as a superhero mentor. Can’t help but have some doubts for the feature: after years of Spiderman origin stories, it will be refreshing if they are able to skip these steps with this new cast. I’m just sat silently hoping they don’t bring forward another romance factor: the kid’s young, I just don’t feel it would be necessary in such a film. Having already seen promising visuals and scenes featuring an intriguing superhero in the trailer, hopes are set pretty pretty high for the July 2017 release.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Kingsman: Secret Service was easily one of my top films of 2014, and even remains to this day possibly one of my favourites of all time; don’t ask why, it’s just pure brilliance in my eyes. And now Taron Egerton returns as the loveable Eggsy, now a experienced Kingsman secret spy. Said to also include the return of Colin Firth as mentor Harry, who previously died by the hands of antagonist Valentine. This come back is an intriguing development to be included in the sequel – which is currently set for UK release in late September – there’s no doubt Firth’s character was a splendid addition to the initial film; to see how he will be incorporated back into Kingsman life is going to be interesting.
